Just saw an advertisement for Turikish Airline’s new service to Istanbul from São Paulo, which began on 5 April 09.   Amazing all the new airlines from that region which have begun service to Brazil as well as the new flights from the US to new Brazilian entry points besides Rio/São Paulo.  
This is good!

The last few days the Brazilian newspapers have been reporting that late flight departures are running as high as 50% at the airports in Sao Paulo (international and domestic airports), Rio, Brasilia and Belo Horzonite.
Last year….the same thing.
Next year?
The problem with getting old is you remember when things were better; at least air travel was.

I first flew Pan Am in Dec 1964 when I came to Brazil as a Peace Corps Volunteer.  The flight left JFK.   It was a Boeing 707.  It was the Starship Enterprise for me.  We landed in Trinidad..flights then could not fly non-stop from NYC to Rio.  It was better then!

The new airline, Azul, has begun selling tickets via the internet; however, flights will not begin until January . This is the low-cost airline started by the founder of JetBlue in the USA.

Emirates Airlines started service between Dubai (DXB) and São Paulo (GRU) back in August – I think.  Connections in Dubai for Australia, New Zealand and Asia.   Pior to this option one had to go to the Middle East via South Africa or Europe.
