There is a significant difference in the lifestyle and quality of life between large, Brazilian cities and smaller ones in the interior. Most Gringos know very little about the interior of Brazil. These two entries will give you some insight.

The Blog “Flowers and More” by GingerV, who lives in the State of Rio de Janeiro, recently did a road tour of small towns in the interior of the State. There are 3 entries….very informative and with great photos.
SUGGESTION:
If you are young, no money, limited work experience and are attempting to move to Brazil, a small city or town in the interior close to a large city is a great place to start your Brazilian adventure. It is not easy as there are few if any Gringos in these small communities. You would be on your own, but that is the best way to learn the language, culture and Brazil’s way of doing things without going broke in the process. You also have a much better chance of getting an ESL teaching. Although, your chances of making a successful move to Brazil are minimal, starting out in a small city in the interior will increase your odds.

The last few days have been similar to those during the dry season….hot and cloudless skies. Today it is 35C/95F and only some scattered clouds. This morning there was not a cloud in the sky. During the dry season (May to September), there are days (many days) when there is not a cloud to be seen and the humidity will drop to Sahara Desert levels. The Sun is still high in the sky and will burn you quickly if not protected. In June and July, it may still be very warm, but the Sun’s rays are much less intensive. Living in the tropics is good, but it has its downside.

If you are coming from Bolivia and cross into Brazil at Corumbá, you can visit the Pantanal, continue on to the capital of Mato Grosso do Sul State (MS), Campo Grande (353 km), catch a bus going Southwest to Bonito (205 km). From here you can either go back to Campo Grande then on to São Paulo City or head South by bus through Paraguay to Falls Iguaçu.
Corumbá was the center setting of a novel by John Grisham called The Testament.
From Corumbá to either São Paulo or Falls Iguaçu is for “hardcore” bus travelers.
