That time of year again!
Although overall dengue cases are down in 20 States compared to the same period last year, it has increased in the following States and in these specific communities:
Acre:
Rio Branco, the capital
Amapá:
Macapá, the capital
Bahia:
Cities: Ilhéus, Ipiaú, Irecê, Jacobina, Jequié and Porto Seguro have declared emergencies. Federal health official will be implementing operations in these cities. Ilheus and Porto Seguro are tourist cities on the southern coast of Bahia. Jequié and Ipiaú are about 130 km from the coast. The other cities are in the interior of the State.
UPDATE: 30 Mar 09 – The state governement of Bahia declared an emergency in the following counties: Itabuna, Ilhéus, Ipiaú, Irecê, Jacobina, Jequié e Porto Seguro. The situation appears to be getting worse based on newspaper reports.
There have been 53 deaths from dengue in Bahia since the beginning of the year. The State Department of Health says it is the largest number of victims of dengue since statical reporting began in 1995.
Espírito Santo:
Cities: Baixo Guandu, Serra, Nova Venécia and Vitória; the capital. Baixo Guandu is a a stop on the Belo Horizonte to Vitória passenger train. Serra is just North of Vitória.
Minas Gerais:
Cities: Belo Horizonte, the capital, Coronel Fabriciano (on the way to Governador Valadares from BH) and Itanhomi (small, isolated town in the moutains).
Roraima:
Boa Vista, the capital

My Niece came down with Dengue and is in the hospital. She will be ok, but gave the family a scare.
