President Lula Meets Sarkozy in French Guiana

President Lula and President Sarkozy of France in French Guiana
The reason these two are meeting in Saint-Georges, French Guiana just across from the Brazilian town of Oiapoque, and the river of the same name, is the launching of the construction of a new bridge, which will link the two countries by highway. It should be completed sometime in 2010. When completed you will be able to drive from Cayenne (capital of French Guiana) to Macapá, the capital of the State of Amapá, located at the mouth of the Amazon River.

There are an estimated 50,000 Brazilians in French Guiana of which 20,000 are illegal. The minimum wage in French Guiana is around €1,000. The minimum wage in Brazil is about €148. So why not hop across the river and join the EU!
-
They also met to discuss French military assistance and Brazilian Biofuel opportunties. Brazil wants to build an atomic submarine to protect its offshore oil fields which could be much larger than at first thought. France has indicated it would assist Brazil.

Glad to see the Brazilians dressed for the climate. Poor Sarkozy must have been miserable.
