Finally sat down to look at your blog. You have a lot of good information. I didn’t find the bus to Friburgo’s information. Camillo and I take the 1001 (mil e um), go to http://200.255.44.6/cgi-bin/br4.cgi
to buy tickets on line. The cost is between R$17 and R$23 depending on whether there is AC/Toilets/time of day or day of week. The bus leaves for Friburgo from the Novo Rotoviaria at 40 minutes past each hour and is usually full. The trip from Rio to Friburgo takes 2 hours 10 minutes - 20 minutes. http://www.autoviacao1001.com.br/web/en/empresa/historico.htm give an interesting story of the bus line.

Thanks for your input, GingerV.

Your Flower Blog is impressive. In fact I need to change your Blog Roll title to something more descriptive than Photo Blog.

I agree that the Serra (mountains) can be a bit depressing this time of year with all the rain and clouds. Can get old fast….like the Northwest of the USA during the Winter.

I was in Petrópolis and that area twice - once in July when it was raining and cold. The other time, don’t recall the month, it was all sunshine and very pretty.

A long way (in many ways) from Houston, TX. :-)

Just need to make a comment about my personal experience on Itapemirim. I took a bus from Garanhuns to Caruaru to Sao Paulo and it was just not a pleasant experience at all. The driver on one shift got lost and added a good two or three hours to the trip. On another leg, we had a tire blow out and the driver took up a collection from the passengers so we could get it fixed at one of the many BR “fix a flats” you see up and down the roads. The driver just stopped the bus and said “we ain’t moving till we get enough to fix the tire”. We asked for “vouchers” equal for whatever each person contributed to use at the bus line lunch counters and they would not give us that. We basically covered operating expenses in addition to the tickets we purchased with no renumeration. Just a horrible experience, and when the passengers tried to complain at the end of the trip, SAC (customer service) was just plain rude an inattentive. Might have been an isolated incident, but I have avoided that line ever since. I have used others and never had anything similar happen.

This company owns GOL Airlines or the son of the owner of Itapemirim does. You would think they had enough money to fix a bus flat. Never a dull moment when you travel in Brazil.

Thanks for the input.

i need information on bus travel between Parati and Maresias - i leave for Brazil on 21st August - if anyone has any advice please e-mail me as soon as possible please !!!! i need to travel from Parati to Maresias on or around 14 September. Thanks

Hi Kristina,

I have no specific info.

However, it is only 110 km from Parati to Maresias. The highway is the main coastal route between Rio and Santos. Should be no problem catching a bus.
